In the recent years, the increasing number of cars has led to serious traffic congestion. This has led to a more pressing need for the traffic managing departments to adapt to a new system of management that allows better transportation and traffic flow. To better assist this requirment, we have spend four year in research and have development a vehical monitoring system based on GPS/GPRS. We believe our system helps traffic managing departments to enhance their level of management and may also provide evidence for the traffic law enforcement process when necessary.GPS/GPRS monitoring and dispatchment system enrolls both advanced technology and modern management standards. Our system can monitor the exact location of a certain vehical, as well as it's current state and it's surrounding environment. This is all vital information for the management and dispatchment of the vehical in question. Our system mainly consist of two parts: the monitoring and dispatchment platform, which is software based, and the vehical terminal, which is all hardware. One of the key point of our research is to develop a durable terminal that satisfies the requirements of the managing departments as well as the common market.This thesis begins with a summary of the vehical dispatchment system, which includes a description of the functions and the core programes involved. This is followed by a detailed account of the complete system structure, split into two main elements: the monitoring platform and the vehical terminal. This is then followed by a simple introduction on the monitoring platform and focuses mainly on the communication protocol between the terminal and the central platform, the design of the vehical terminal and the implementation of the design. Lastly, we illustrate the testing and debugging stage of the system as a whole.
