Radio frequency identification (RFID) system is a wireless communication system in which the radio link between the base station and the tags are furnished by the modulated back-scattered waves. At the present time, both in theory and practice application aspects, it comes to the front more and more, in that UHF RFID technology is the most advanced in the world. UHF band RFID has advantages of long identification distance, speedy identification, relatively long life and so on which is applied to these domain electric street nameplate, freeway charge, logistics management and strategy and tracking of products. With the rise of things, the UHF band of the reader will have a better development prospect. The thesis has done researches in some key technologies of UHF RFID. Firstly, the history, evolution and the current development status about RFID in China and the world are introduced. Then, the RFID system structure and the fundamentals are discussed, and the relevant protocols are compared. Secondly, forward link and backward link of the reader were modeled in Matlab/Simulink respectively based on the EPC Classl Generation2, and the simulation results were analyzed, in order to achieve the communication between the reader and the tag. Finally, according to the EPC Classl Generation2, the reader of RFID system works on the 915MHz was researched and designed on the foundation of a detailed analysis on the relative theory and technology for UHF RFID. Reader system includes two parts. One is the reader and the other is the host. The reader is in charge of realizing EPC protocol and composed of main function, encoding and decoding, CRC5/16, anti-collision and so on. It runs on the single-chip processor. The host is an interface which achieved the communication between the reader and the tag by using the Visual C++6.0 successfully, so as to realize the read and write operations on the tag.
