With the rapid development of China's railway transport system in recent years, there are increasing number of trains on the railway which are moving on a higher speed than ever before. As a result, to make a good job of scheduling and navigating a large number of locomotives in the depot, locomotive depot manager need to precise locate the locomotives in real time which enter or exit the locomotive depot in order to keep know the distribution of locomotives, so that they can manage and maintenance the depot effectively, which put forward new requirements and challenges for locomotive depot management system. In the traditional locomotive management system, locomotive depot manager locate the position of locomotive mostly with artificial outlook and camera monitoring, which revealed a lot of shortcomings in the new requirements of locomotive localization. Artificial outlook method have a poor property of real-time, and need to increase the number of depot manager, which is a huge time and human resource consuming, and the camera monitoring system is relatively complex and require a certain degree of hardware facilities which is cost highly, on the other hand, this method is sensitive to NLOS interference, and have dead zone which we can't cover.This paper address this issue as a starting point, and aim to discuss and study the technology of wireless sensor networks for localization based on IEEE 802.15.4 communication protocol. First of all, I will introduce the research and development of wireless location technology at home and abroad. and the focal point will be focused on wireless sensor network localization technology, and On this basis, a precision location method for locomotive tracking based on SDSTW-TOA ranging and least-square method was proposed. And then, based on the operation area intelligent dynamic positioning management system project of company, I will design a real-time wireless location and management system for locomotive, which based on wireless sensor network technology. I first calculate the distance between nodes using wireless signal transmission time, then I will put the distance information into relative coordinate information combining the appropriate location algorithm, and finally transmit the coordinate information to PC and displayed on the display screen.By statistical analysis of distance results I will verify the SDSTW-TOA ranging method of its higher accuracy and robustness. With the 30m×30m area real location test, I will verify that its accuracy and real time property basically realize the design requirements which meet the maintenance needs of locomotive depot positioning environment. There is also a found that the system has a error jitter phenomenon in display screen, and after analysis I made some corresponding solutions. Finally I will summarize the whole article and made the prospect of the follow-up work.
