Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is short-range wireless network consisting of densely deployed large number of sensor nodes with different specs and functions. Each sensor node has ability of apperceiving, computing and communicating; they form a network through ad-hoc mode. The sensor node periodically collects environment data and sends processed data or information to sink. Sensor network can apperceive, inspect and gather the information of a given object or environment through wireless communication between each node. Wireless sensor network is very different from traditional network, the former focus on data and the later focus on the transmission of data. Sensor network technology was firstly used in military systems. But now, it has been used in almost all of the fields with the development of sensor network technology. At the same time, it more and more requires lower cost, larger battery life, more reliable and robust communications, so ZigBee protocol came into being.ZigBee technology is a developed short distance wireless two-way communicati- on technology. This technology has the merits of simple agreement, low power, strong network ability, large network capacity, short delay, safety, reliability and low cost, etc. It also has the functions of path selection, automatic network connection and self-recovery ability. ZigBee technology is particularly suit to small data throughput and network construction investment, higher requirements of the network security, inconvenience frequent battery replacement or recharging occasions. It is expected to be in consumer electronics equipment, intelligent household, industrial, medical equipment control, agricultural automation fields of application.Firstly,this paper introduces the theoretical knowledge of wireless sensor netw- orks. Secondly, the ZigBee is analyzed deeply and the function of each layer is introduced. Thirdly, the realization of network construction based on ZigBee is proposed. Then, a simple network layer was constructed through three steps of scanning the channels, the PAN network establishment and the association between nodes establishment, then the mechanism of ZigBee routing is analyzed deeply and the performances of ZigBee routing is simulated. This paper designs and implements a system of data acquisition for wireless sensor networks, with the construction of ZigBee wireless sensor networks, the transmission of temperature and humidity sensor database on it. Finally, a summary is given, meanwhile, the next development direction of the research work is proposed.
