Wireless sensor network which crosses many disciplines has become the new researching hotspot focused by many countries, and is one of the technology that bring the great influence during the 21st century. It has the abilities of information collection, transmission and processing as it includes various technologies, such as sensor, wireless communication and computation. With the development of the electronic technology, wireless sensor network will come into a rapid development age. However, the wireless network technology is just now applied to many fields, such as industry monitoring, agriculture automobile, intelligent building, biologic treatment, environmental monitor, home automobile etc, which demands little date throughput; besides, power consuming is also lower than the power offered by present criterion. In order to ptomote simple and convenient wirless devices and freely use proliferation of them, lots of wireless nodes are needed to placed in these application fields. Thus, low prices will play a key role.ZigBee technology is newly emerging short distance wireless communication protocol, it has the features of low power consumption, high density of nodes per network, low speed, and these make a new field. It has the merits of simply agreements, the low wastage, the strong network ability, the big network capacity, shourt extended. It also has the functions of way choice, automatically linking the network and selfrecovery.at present, it has been used at other countries. Following the Open Sytems Interconnection reference model, ZigBee protocol stack is divided into 4 layers. IEEE802.15.4 defines the 2 low layers: physical layer and Medium access control layer. ZigBee alliance defines network layer and application layer. The network nodes have the merits of low cost, low wastage and small size, and these make the merits of the network system.Firstly, this paper introduces the characterisitics and the development of wireless sensor networks. Anlysis many common wireless sensor network technology, and give the merits of ZigBee. Secondly, the ZigBee is analyed deeply and the function of each layer is introduced. After reading and analyzing the ZigBee protocol, this paper describes the design of the PHY, MAC and NWK layers in detail. The paper uses the second hardware platform project on behalf of MC13213, which is offered by Freescale Company. MC13213 used as a system integration chip, inside integrates S08GT60 chip and MC13192 RF (Radio Frequency) module, because of this, the design of peripheral circuit can be simplified and the cost can be further cut down. Then, I can establish soft platform and realize the ZigBee protocol stack based on the hardware platform. The paper comes up with network algorithm based on ZigBee, and establishing wireless network through many functions, such as, path selection, network estabilshment, address distribution and into-network flow etc, the construction of wireless sensor network due to these functions is proposed, which is successfully tested on the hardware platform. Finally, the paper takes the practical applications of the data acquisition of modern agriculture as the object, and introduces a simple application example. The example which I designed can achieve network construction of coordinator, into-network flow and transmission and reception of the date, moreover, the protocol stack is successfully proved. This research provides a valuable reference and practical significance to the application of the wireless sensor network based on ZigBee, and also offers related hardware and software basic platform to the applications of wireless technology based on ZigBee. Finally, a summary is gven, meanwhile, the next development direction of the research work is proposed.
