With the expansion of enrollment in colleges and universities, the quantity of college student increases significantly. The use of advanced IT technology plays an important role in enhancing teaching management level and improving the overall quality of students. The exist application architecture can't reuse the function of the old system when developing a new system. All of the old data must be inputted and processed repeat with the waste of resources and inefficiency. Due to the lack of overall planning, there is different development technology, platform and database in exist applications that result in difficulty in data sharing and function integrating. To solve these problems, there is a need of a new framework to share data and reuse exist business functions.To achieve the object of sharing the data resource and reusing business service, service oriented architecture is used to develop academic information platform in this paper. The academic information platform includes the main functions of teaching program management, arranging schedule management, course selection management, student record management, score management and assessment of teaching quality.Firstly, this paper researches on the theoretical framework of SOA in depth and analyses the architecture and organization of Web Services as a SOA realization technology. Secondly, this paper analyses the business process about academic management using SOA as guide, acquire all the service that the application need to provide, defines all the service candidate based on an overall consideration, model the service, focus on researching of service discovery and service specification. Construct the foundation for application design and development. Finally, the academic information platform developed based on J2EE and Java programming language. This paper discusses the way how to implement and call the web service and develop the application by service call. Business logic of the system will be packaged as services, to improve the efficiency of the system, The system has good scalability and easy maintenance. Taking service oriented architecture as guiding ideology, taking web services based on J2EE as developing technology, academic information platform is developing fast, scalable, and easy to maintain, effective reuse of existing data systems and related business. All these make a good guidance for information systems that want to use service oriented architecture.
