Polymer Network Liquid Crystal Display (PNLCD) is a kind of micro-electronic equipment with high precision and reliability. And it relates to the sciences and technologies in such fields as optics, computer control and materials science. But, because of the environmental temperature or other environment factors as well as structural loads, PNLCD may be easily damaged when working. If the LCD is damaged, the typical phenomena are blurry even invisible image, delamination of material layers and white-dot between layers. All these phenomena have much to do with the environment factors and structural loads, and in which, environmental temperature is one of the most important factors.This paper focuses on the environmental temperature how to influence the material state and its reliability of a new PNLCD. As a new material, the PNLCD mentioned in this paper is an assembly which is pressed together by nine layers structure. The nine layers are placed symmetrical in the assambly and are made by six kinds of different materials. It is noticeable that the material characteristics of every materials as well as the PNLCD assembly are unknown to us. So, the following contents are researched:①The relationship between the characteristics of PNLCD assembly and that of every layer is found out to get the material parameters that are needed for FE simulation .②Mechanical test are carried out to determine the overall characteristics of the PNLCD assembly. And environment experiments are done to obtain the law of temperature field-effect and its mode of temperature failure.③The finite element simulations of thermal-structural coupled field of PNLCD are carried out with the estimated parameters of the material properties. The analysis results are got to show the stress distribution rule of the PNLCD and to explain the failure phenomena when the PNLCD is working in high temperature environment.By comparing the results of FE simulation to that of environment experiments and dicussion, it shows that,the finite element simulation results matches well with that of environmental experiments. That's to say, the method of estimating the unknown material parameters is reasonable and feasible. On the other hand, because of the independently and generality, the analysis method proposed in this paper can be used in other similar situations that need to obtain the unkown characteristics of layered material.
