Reconfigurable Computing(RC) is a new computing solution situated between General Purpose Processor and ASICs.Within a typical FPGA-based RC system, the hardware configuration stored in FPGA that determines its functionality could be dynamically called or altered in the way as software process, thus not only retaining the high speed and efficiency of hardware solution, but also enjoying the advantage of software solution in the aspects of high flexibility, less development cycle and friendly maintainability. Therefore RC system enters the spotlight in the research of computing systems.Research on RC computing continues to face preoccupation problems during its development, one of which proved to be crucial is the absence of a practical hardware platform that well supports the RC-oriented operating system(RCOS).Without the platform, research on RCOS is kept being hindered in the phase of theory and concepts. While without the support of RCOS,a RC system would suffer from lack of abstraction and management of reconfigurable resources, and also its potential ability to parallel computing.By focusing on the problems mentioned above, this paper tends to design and implement an RC system platform that is based on a single FPGA of Xilinx Virtex-4. The platform would be acting as the basis of RCOS research and other applications. The main works is as follows.Firstly, concepts of RC are introduced together with several related technologies in details, which include RC devices,RC system categories and RC design flows.Next, the paper lays emphasis on the analysis of recent development and implementations of RC system platform.Based on the analysis and summary of system requirements,a detailed scenario design of RC system platform is put forward in the paper, along with the system-level design flow on the platform.Last part of the paper shows the flow of how to debug the platform,by introducing the debug environment and tools. It also throws a light on several debug methods.
