Chinese County-level Television And U.s. Local Television Station Operators And Program Comparison Study

Since Chinese government implemented the policy of allowing county-level administrative organizations to set up their own TV stations in 1983, Chinese county level TV stations have embraced their 25 years anniversary. With the development of scale and quality, county level TV stations have become an indispensable part of China's TV media. Nowadays, China's central government pay increasing attention to county development, as the most direct media to peasants, country TV stations have drawn increasing attention from the academia. However, owing to the factors of funding, technology, scale and management, county TV stations haven't enjoyed good audience rating, and their influence are also very limited. This thesis tries to make a comparison between Chinese county TV stations and American local TV stations in terms of program setting and news content, hoping to find ways that Chinese county TV stations could use to improve their programs. Through comparing the system and management, the thesis tries to find a way to reform Chinese county-level TV stations in the future.The thesis is divided into five parts. The first part is a literature review on this field and further clarifies the importance of the research and the breakthrough. The second part introduces and describes the backgrounds and current situation of the Chinese county TV stations and American local TV stations. The third part is a case study comparing the Chinese county TV stations and American local TV stations in terms of system, management and program, especially news program. The third part summarizes the problems that Chinese county TV stations face. The fifth part puts forward a few possible solutions and suggestions to the problems.
