With the intensifies of the market globalization competition, as well as the computer network technology development and popularization, enterprise more and more starts to use the computer to carry on many activities such as business management, product research and development as well as processing manufacture, which makes every effort to fastly response to the market.Although the computer application sped up product development speed and reduced the cycle of product development in the enterprise, the traditional management methods already could not adapt to all sorts of changes which the computer application brought to the enterprise. In particular these changes must be outstanding when the manufacture enterprise passed the certain stage in the computer application or accumulated lots of information. In the enterprise's informationization construction, the product data management, the data-produced process management, the application software management as well as the management of data-flow and work-flow had already become the "bottleneck" of the enterprise's entire activity process, so that an integration management system is urgently needed to manage and control all kinds of data and data-flow and work-flow in enterprise, in order to exert the function of the computer system that can guaranteed the fast and highly effective product research and development in enterprise, and adapte to the characters which manufacture enterprise must have to survive and develop such as the fast response to market demand, the high working efficiency, reduction of the product cost and so on.Product data management (PDM) is a kind of technology to manage all the related information which is produced in the manufacture enterprise's product forming process. The PDM basic principle is that all CAx information isolated islands are integrated logically, and entire product development process is controlled by the computer system, with gradually establishment of the virtual product model, finally the entire product description, the production process description as well as the control data of the production process are formed. Its important functions include data management, process management as well as application system integration and so on. At present, some domestic and foreign enterprises gradually are using the technology and the product of product data management, which is regarded as the enterprise level integrated environment including support of product development, management administration and flow reorganization in order to ensure and strengthen the enterprise's competitive ability.Firstly, this thesis has analyzed the existed jam in the manufacturing industry development presently and proposed the methods to aid enterprise to manage product data with PDM system.Secondly, the basic principle and characters of PDM system are analysed and researched, and functions of PDM system in application, operation and management are introduced as well. Finally, taking PDM project of Ensival-Moret (Shanghai) limited company as the background, this thesis analyses the characters of enterprise's technology-work and the questions company faces in Ensival-Moret, and aiming at the actual demand of the company product data management in Ensival-Moret, describe the construction of a system to suit to enterprise's product data management, and carry on the detailed analysis and the research on the project plan and the implementation. Successful implementation of this project help the enterprise to establish the enterprise level knowledge database, reduce the designer's repetition work, realize fast transmission of information and enhance the working efficiency. Research methods and the achievements of this thesis have the certain use for reference significance and the reference value for the machine manufacture industry.
