Railage occupies the very important position in our national various modern transportation ways. With the running speed of train was continuously heightened, safety has brought forward higher request to the locomotive's operation. Be up against the shortcoming that bad real-time character of actual locomotive's operational status monitoring, a kind of locomotive's running status monitoring system, which based on GPRS wireless communication technology, was advanced and designed in this paper. The system takes giving an alarm of "Unconventionally shut down" event as start, takes realizing remote monitoring towards the running train as purpose, and takes ensuring the locomotive's running safety and enhancing the locomotive department's supervision ability as ultimate aim.This thesis took full advantage of public network resource, built the locomotive's running state monitoring system, which is making up of vehicle-carried subsystem, communication network and ground subsystem. The system mainly has two follow functions: the one is gives an alarm of "Unconventionally shut down" event, and transmits the locomotive's data to ground in time; another is ground system could inquire about the locomotive's data on its own initiative at any moment with the cooperation of telephone call and short message service.The paper studied the system design and realization from systemic angle. The first chapter introduced the study background and present situation of home and abroad, then put forward the locomotive's running state monitoring system based on GPRS. The second chapter summarized the structure and function of this system. The third and forth chapter given an overview of software and hardware design of vehicle-carried and ground subsystems respectively. The fifth chapter expatiated on the design and realization way of the system communication scheme. The sixth chapter introduced the methods and results of the lab test and on-line test. The last chapter listed the sum-up and expectation of this system.
