The rainfall information is one of the most important parts of the meteorological data, but the conventional means of detecting and transmitting rainfall data can not satisfy the needs of the real-time data detection and the data reliability. For this case, a new kind of GPRS remote system for rainfall monitoring is put forward. The wireless rainfall data transmission is realized through the GPRS data terminal modular. At the same time, with the GPRS wireless communication, micro-processor and Internet technology, the results have been achieved that the rainfall data is automatically detected and processed by means of the wireless, intelligent networks. Several aspects of the surveillance system are discussed in the following paper:At first, the basic knowledge of GPRS wireless communication and the main framework of the rainfall monitoring system are introduced in the dissertation. In this part, the main contents include the design target of system, the choice of the communication mode, the system components and principle, the compatibleness with the wire-networks for the data communication. Comparing GPRS wireless communication with other communication modes, its huge advantages for rainfall information transmission are proposed specially.Secondly, the specifications of the autonomous rain station are explained in detail. They are the most important of this part which are the system components of the rainfall detection and process unit, the design of the system power, the realization of using the clock store chip and USB device to store the historical rainfall data, and the specific application of GPRS wireless communication for transmitting rainfall information.And then, the topology structure and the hardware components of data service center, and NAT technology for the construction of data service center are introduced. Furthermore, the dissertation digs into the approaches to programming the system software in the data service center, which are involved in the design of the rainfall information database, programming of the software for receiving and processing the rainfall information, the construction of the website for rainfall information query. In addition, the technologies of database accessing, the program skills and applications of VC++ and ASP are also mentioned.Finally, some conclusions are drawn from the former theories and the discussion, and the development of the monitoring system is predicted. It has been place emphasis on in last part that the rainfall monitoring system not only is an intelligent autonomous system with the advanced means of data communication, but also proposes a general ideal model for other supervisory control and data acquisition systems.
