Digital reference service is the users's new requirements of the public library under the network environment.The public libraries can extend the scope of services through the dissemination of information on the network,so that users can share the public service conveniently and fastly.Through sample survey of Harbin Library readers about the requirements of digital reference service,we can understand readers' needs in the era of network.This article discuss several operating modes on the digital reference service.After visiting several public library's web site providing virtual reference service,the author accesses the real-time reference records and points out the shortage about domestic real-time digital reference service.Public library web site construction is important prerequisite and hardware protection of the public library's digital reference service.On the research about 15 domestic and three foreign public libraries' web site,the author gives some suggestions in the public library web site building.Digital reference librarian's quality is an important aspect in providing sevice,the article gives brief describes on digital reference librarian skills and quality.In the end,the author puts forward some measures,such as 24/7 service,the standard of system and the quality assessment.
