Study On The Development Of Self-service Library

The establishment of public cultural service system requires active participation andsupport from various culture-related departments and agencies. It has been an inevitabledemand over future development of libraries for public library, one of crucial mechanisms ofpublic cultural service system, to develop extensive services on the basis of a healthycost-effectiveness. The development of self-service library is a complex relationship systemwhich involves various social bodies. With continuous technological and functionalenhancement, the service realms, contents and methodologies of self-service library will keepoptimizing in a reasonable and scientific manner. The article is drafted against thisbackground.Self-service library is regarded as an important constituent of China’s public cultureservice system. Its development relies largely on the wide usage of RFID in libraries and itsoriginal advantages. The article describes the establishment requirement of China’s publicculture service system, background, current situation and technological support of self-servicelibraries. In it, the five laws of library, Pareto’s law, long tail theory of self-service library areanalyzed in the main part. Through the study and analysis of library key elements, thecomparison of service manners between traditional library and self-service library is clearlydemonstrated. Based on its merits and demerits study, several management issues have beenpointed out covering cost-effectiveness, location planning, logistics, etc. For the issues,feasible suggestions and proposals have been provided with cases such as cooperation oflibraries and companies, authorization cooperation, etc. The aim is to promote a healthydevelopment for self-service library to evolve into a sustainable organic body.
