The fast development in data service boosts the demand in 3G license . Before holding 3G license, building EDGE network based on GPRS makes network operator utilize wireless network furthest and provides multimedia communication operation for customers. EDGE network utilizes GSM much full than GPRS and protects most prepaid invest in GSM, for most equipments can be reused in EDGE network. All engineering application research in this paper based on EDGE network project in shanxi branch, CMCC. Firstly, this paper introduce the development process of mobile communication, research background and paper's structure. Then introduce the principle of EDGE, analyze the influence of EDGE and problems in engineering, expatiate the wireless network system architecture of shanxi mobile. At last, this paper research the feasibility maneuverability and relativity of EDGE based on real EDGE network construction, constitute the EDGE solution in shanxi mobile ,test and analyze the performance of experimental wireless data communication. The research and test in this paper shows that EDGE improve much more in information in transmission speed, service quality and really solve the increasing demand in data service. It also prove that EDGE is an excellent solution in the transitional period from 2G to 3GThe author take part in the EDGE experimental network and finish the design of engineering project. At the same time ,the author do more research on network optical, fault analyzing and fault settlement. In the research period ,the author find and resolve many real problems. All the results concluded in this paper show great significant in guiding EDGE network construction and optimization of shanxi mobile.
