Library Service Innovation In The Digital Environment

With the development of network and digital technology, service in university libraries is facing strong challenges. In digital environment, users' request, the way to get information and the users' expected value of service were all changed. University libraries must adjust the strategy and make radical improvement. They must make deep research in service innovation, including theory, model and method etc. The paper makes use of various research methods, including document investigation, study on internet resources, analysis and induction etc. and makes a further research in service innovation of university libraries. The paper begins with the analysis of present condition and problems in university library service, and puts more emphasis on theoretical discussion on service innovation. Analyzing the old and the new five principles of library science and introducing theories of modern service innovation, this paper summarizes the driving force for service innovation of university libraries. The paper also describes the simple model of service innovation and discusses the relationship between service and technology, on the basis of which it puts forward some advice on constructing the system of service innovation in university libraries.
