Learning Commons(LC)as a typical representative of the University Library Service Innovation,since it was born in 2005.The mission of LC is similar to university library,so most of them are built as a new space in the library.LC not only provides traditional library services,but also adapts to the goal of university education development.Its resources are organized in collaboration with learning initiatives sponsored by other academic units to support and enact the development and reform of higher education.Studying on domestic and foreign literature,the research on the topic of LC has many achievements.Author find that the LC's generation and building system are incomplete and the study on the development of LC is rare.Based on the predecessors,this paper studies the LC basic theory,comments the typical cases,puts forward a framework and summarizes the development in the future.Chapter ? introduces the fundamental issues on LC,such as the background and significance,the methods and innovation,and summarizes the literature of LC;Chapter ?presents LC's basic theory,mainly concerning the concepts,characteristics,and the development.Chapters ? and ? of the paper is the key part.It comments typical cases of LC,summarizes the experiences,proposes the infrastructure of LC and the future direction;chapter Vsummarizes the main results of the article,points out the shortcomings,propose the further research prospects.Throught literature research,case studies and spot investigation,the main conclusions in this study are follows:(1)Researching on relationship of learning commons and Information Commons(IC).this paper comes to LC is the new stage of IC in the University Library.The differences between LC and IC are the relationship of library,missions,objectives,operation modes,services,learning attitudes,users' needs.(2)Carding the development of LC:embryonic stage(1992-2004).Since 1992,the University of Iowa put IC concept into the library,marking the birth of IC.Later,many universities construct IC and acquire successful experiences.As the development of IC,increasing emphasis on the teaching and research support services and the environment,some IC try to cooperate with teaching departments,IT departments,student services and others,and make IC into the school's plan.Thus IC gradually transfor to LC,and LCbegan to grow;development stage(2004-)Donald Robert Beagle published the white paper "From information commons to learning commons",declared the official birth of LC.These concepts are adopted and summarized by Scott Bennett,and widely recognized by scholars.And now is the rapid development stage of LC.(3)Constructing the framework of LC:cooperation mechanism is the key to successfully construct LC.Requiring library in the design and implementation of LC should have deep cooperation with academic institutions.LC space is component of reference area,study area,reading area,social activity area,recreation area,user display area and others.(4)Pointing out the future development of LC.It including two directions:one is attached to the main library,and become an integral part of library;the other is to become a library,make the whole library into LC.
