With the rapid development of electronic technology, because modern frequency source (frequency synthesizer) inherent superiority that is, a high stability and accuracy standard frequency produces millions of frequency with the same stability and accuracy, Frequency synthesizer technology has been widely used increasingly, such as communications, radar, navigation, television, electronic reconnaissance, jamming, universe of space, remote telemetry, instruments and more. Frequency source performance has a direct impact on the overall performance of electronic systems, So frequency source is regarded as the "heart" of numerous electronic systems, it has always been one key of studying electronic systems.The technical indexes of frequency source include: frequency bandwidth, frequency step, frequency stability, phase noise, output power, spur, time of frequency conversion and more. According to the different uses of frequency source, every technical index and focus is not exactly same. These differences determine the diversity of design schemes and design methods of frequency source.In this paper, the subject of study is X Band High Resolution Fast Shifted Frequency Synthesizer, which derives from the "Instantaneous Frequency Measurement System" project from Sine Science and Technology Limited Corporation in Chengdu. I am responsible for the overall design of the frequency synthesizer, and cooperate with the circuits design engineers and structures design engineers from Sine Science and Technology Limited Corporation to complete the frequency synthesizer. In this project, we mainly use Direct Digital Synthesizer (DDS), Phase Locked Loop (PLL), Diode Frequency Multiplier, Mixer, Filter, and more techniques. This frequency synthesizer has low-cost, low-power-consumption, small-size and other characteristics.In this project, I undertake a low phase noise PLL, a 2-time frequency multiplier, a 6-time frequency multiplier, and several filters.Firstly, this paper analyzes and discusses the design principles and theories of the key technologies, such as DDS, PLL, Diode Frequency Multiplier. Secondly, it details the design scheme of the frequency synthesizer. Thirdly, it introduces the ways of circuits design and gives some notes which should be cared when we design, realize and test these circuits. Finally, it shows the results of measurement and gives some proposals of innovation.
