With the rapid development of communications, the demand of bandwidth is increasing in communication system. Development toward the millimeter wave band is a practical approach in the present situation of frequency congestion. As core of the electronic system, frequency synthesizer affects the performance of the whole system. As an important part of frequency synthesizer, frequency multiplier can make the frequency of oscillator in electronic equipment lower, and solve the frequency congestion in microwave band. It is also welcome for its high stability, low noise, simple structure, small size, and easy to integrate.Based on theory of frequency multiplier, this dissertation introduced the design of a 1~10GHz frequency multiplier. A chain structure which contains two stage of frequency multiplier is used. At the first stage, power amplify pushes the step recovered diode to achieve a frequency quintupling. The second stage achieved a frequency double with gain by field effect transistor. There are filters after each stage to reject the unwanted harmonics. A novel compact structure of band pass filter is specially introduced. The relative bandwidth is less than 8%, low insertion loss in pass band and symmetric couple of transmission zeros achieved high selectivity. Due to different order of power supply to the gate and the drain, a power supply block is introduced to meet the need, and it can also be applied to another application. The output power of simulation is more than 0dBm in the first stage with harmonic rejection better than 30dBc when the input power is 0~+5dBm. The simulation of second stage achieved a frequency double with gain. The output power is more than 5dBm and the rejection of the harmonics is better than 25dBc when the input power is 0~+5dBm.This dissertation introduced a simple and practical frequency multiplier. The structure is helpful for guiding the research of MMIC frequency multiplier in communication system.
