The signal simulator of radar target is a new kind of radar equipment, through providing imaginary targets and environment simulated echo, it could imitate various working environment of radar and test the capability of detecting,tracking,anti-interfere under actual combat situations. Adopting radar target simulation technology also could save expenditure in field experiment. Since radar simulation technology gets improved all the time, it becomes a very important part of radar technology.This paper studies the altimeter radar target simulator DSP system design and realization. First, the echo theory and target simulated method are discussed, and focus on the angle and distance simulation. Secondly, the hardware structure of the system is designed. Lastly, base on the methed of modularization, the important modules are realized in FPGA, such as the orthogonal digital down converters delay of target distances target track database,doppler frequence modulation,Amplitude modulation of antenna beams target echo signal creating, and show the result of simulation. With the flexibility of system, this simulator could receive signal from the radar and processe it to simulate radar echo, but also could creat simulated echo signal directly by itself. The result of experiment shows that this design is feasible and has achieved various expected function.
