MPEG-1 audio layer III (MP3) coding is one of very important aspects in digital audio compression field. This thesis discussed a scheme of MP3 real-time coder system. Main works include the selection of MP3 coder scheme, audio compression algorithm and the design of MP3 real-time coder scheme.Firstly, two kinds of MP3 coder scheme, which apply one or more digital signal processors (DSPs) to MP3 coding respectively, was analyzed and compared. And a MP3 coder scheme based on one high-performance DSP was proposed. Secondly three major aspects of audio compression algorithm were analyzed. Those aspects are subband filter bank and modified discrete cosine transform (MDCT), psychoacoustic model, quantification and coding. Thirdly, the design of MP3 real-time coder based on TMS320VC5502 was presented. The coding flow including analog audio signal sampling and PCM coding using CODEC, MP3 coding of digital audio signal using DSP, MP3 compressed data frame transmission to personal computer (PC) using Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) bus. Moreover, some basic rules of high-speed printed circuit board (PCB) design were discussed.
