ITU-T is an international standardization organization of communications industry.As a branch of this organization, speech-coding technology has established a great lot ofspeech compression standards, including G.721, G.723, G.726, G.728, G.729and etc. Thesecoders have been widely applied in many areas such as SPC exchange, multimediamemory, speech communications and VOIP. This article will mainly discuss about theimplementation and application of real time codec of G.726 based on DSP. The referredchip is TMS320DM642 from TI company. The key researches include the compressionalgorithm of G.726, establishment of real time codec system, and optimization of G.726algorithm.Firstly, the article introduces about the compression algorithm of G.726. The keypoints are about A-law andĪ¼-law logarithmic. compression, adaptive prediction, andadaptive quantization. Secondly, it introduces about real time codec system of G.726 basedon TMS320DM642 from TI company. Thirdly, it explains about the optimization of G.726algorithm under CCS. The main working process is as below: to modify and compile thecode as required, to analyze the global code in virtue of profile tools, to find out the codewhich consumes longer IPC and optimize in order to realize real time. In the end, thisarticle analyzes the quality of speech compression codec of G. 726 under different coderates, and compares the IPC before and after optimization.
