Abstract/Summary:
Since the advent of general Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) and high precision analog to digital converters, digital audio signal processing has become increasingly popular in multimedia applications. As such any general purpose DSPs can be used for portable and home entertainment audio systems. But for these applications, they were found to be too expensive. A simple digital audio processor would be a good replacement to a sophisticated DSPs in portable and home entertainment systems.; Such a simple digital processor is considered in this thesis. The control unit of a simple audio processor has been designed using VHDL, synthesized using Altera library for EPM 7192EGC160 and EPM 7032LC44-10 devices and simulated using Viewlogic's Workview Office for functional verification.
