Based On The Product Bom Information Management System

Nowadays, many domestic medium-sized and small-sized enterprises need urgently to solve the problems on the management of BOM. However, purchasing a large-scale PDM software is not only expensive, but also difficult to implement. So a small-scale BOM management system is required to meet the basic need of BOM management for those enterprises. Investigated the factual production requirement of those enterprises, a web-based management system of product BOM is developed as a subsystem of a web-based PDM system. The mode of Browser/Server is applied to this system. The popular XML is used to achieve information share under heterogeneous circumstances. Another pop technology of middleware is adopted to solve the problem of writing operation from java applet to web server. In this system, a program based on CAD software was designed to put the BOM information of CAD products into XML documents. BOM is expressed in Product Structure Tree (PST) by java applet program embed in a browser page. Various BOM views can be made for different users of this system. A middleware was made not only to fulfill the modifications of design information but also to perform the annotation to VRML geometric models of CAD products. The scheme presented in this paper can preferably satisfy the performance requirement of the system. It makes the system independent of platforms. The system can realize BOM management under heterogeneous circumstances and integrate various CAD software platforms. The development of this system is also an attempt for the research of web-based PDM system.
