| WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) is one of three main 3G standards with technical characteristics that are very different from those of GSM in that the principles and methods for the planning of its wireless network have undergone remarkable changes. WCDMA as a self-interfering, soft-coverage and soft capacity network dictates the complexity and generality of its network planning. In other words network planning engineers are required to carry out overall analysis of various aspects of technical details using network planning tools in order to achieve successful network planning.Chaohu City in Anhui province is taken as an example in this study, with discussions about the coverage method for wireless network and work-flow processes for pure voice and data businesses. U-NET software is used with respect to the planning of capacity, coverage and quality, to set the engineering parameters and those for wireless resources based on planning requirements and network characteristics. This study also explores feasible methods for minimizing the engineering cost insofar as the system is able to meet the requirements for signal coverage, system capacity and business quality. Upon completion of construction of base stations based on planning design, the network's planning effect is examined, with residual problems resolved using planning software by way of optimization means including simulation and road testing, etc. |
