Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access(TD-SCDMA), with China's self-owned intellectual property rights, is one of the main international standards in the third-generation (3G) mobile communication systems. It has plenty of advantages such as high spectral efficiency, multi-carrier frequency, network flexibility and slight respiratory effects. The proper cellular planning of TD-SCDMA mobile networks is very important to its sustainable development.After briefly introducing the key technologies and features of TD-SCDMA, this thesis investigates the technical solution of TD-SCDMA network planning based on a practical example. In contrast to the pure theoretical planning method, which normally regard different areas in a city as the same, the thesis proposes a more efficient planning method by considering some factors, such as the traffic density and the geography parameters of different base station positions, which can be obtained by conducting site survey and pre-estimating traffic densities in different areas. Simulation results through software APOX will show that the proposed planning method achieves improvement to varying degrees in several aspects, such as hand off area and co-frequency interference.Besides the TD-SCDMA network planning for the whole city, the planning for a special local area, for example due to a sudden increase of subscribers in a place with an event or a site failure from an insufficient power supply, is also very challenging. Traditional engineering solutions only rely on the experience from previous network deployments. This thesis proposes a more efficient local network planning method, where by using the software simulation, an initial local area planning result can be generated as an excellent reference for practical network deployments.
