Since the 80's of 20th century, Mobile Communications has experienced the changes from analog communication to digital communication. With the rapid development of mobile communications, traditional voice and low speed data services to the second generation of ground-based mobile communications system has gradually failed to meet people's demands, while new data and multimedia services, such as video telephony, E-mail, Video transfer, file downloads will become an indispensable business mobile communications component. The development of mobile communications has entered the 3G era. At present, many countries abroad have invested commercial 3G system already. In January 2009, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China release of the 3G licenses, the major mobile operators are actively building third generation mobile communication systems.There are three mainstream 3G standard format, that is, WCDMA, CDMA2000 and TD-SCDMA. Among them, CDMA2000 of the United States is compatible with the existing narrowband CDMA network; WCDMA of European is proposed in order to achieve compatibility with the GSM network and a smooth transition from GSM to 3G systems design; TD-SCDMA is put forward by China. It enjoys independent intellectual property rights. Therefore it has attracted national attention.The background of the paper is the planning project of TD-SCDMA wireless network, with the actual situation of TD-SCDMA network construction of Chongqing Mobile. From the practical application of TD-SCDMA wireless network planning, we conducted in-depth study of the development, structure, principles and practical applications of wireless network planning of the TD-SCDMA system. Using a theoretical calculation method, we calculate the specific capacity, coverage and the number of sites of TD-SCDMA wireless network. Finally, using the planning software, we design the coverage, interference and service quality of the system, and simulate the planning results. We obtained the building programs of TD-SCDMA wireless network of Jiangbei district of Chongqing.
