The competition of world shipping market is now intense day by day. The high tech management tool becomes one which of key aspects in an impregnable position in the competition. Qingdao Ocean Shipping Company Ltd (COSCO Qingdao), a large-scale shipping enterprise, is engaged in international marine bulk cargo transportation. Along with the shipping service's unceasing development, the original management information system could not adapt her shipping services to expand and being complicated unceasingly. In order to provide more effective technological means and the management tool for the company's development, COSCO Qingdao proposed to develop a new ship's operation system software. Based on the advanced information technology, an electronic platform of new generation is to be built to conform to the shipping trade development request and to realize the comprehensive management of operation flow, the rich function, the needs to the strain, easily facilitating, being nimble, stable, safe reliable and fast effective.At present, there are several shipping management systems at home and abroad, such as COSCO BULK Production Operation Management System, COSCO HONG KONG Shipping Management System, COSCOCON OOCL-IRIS2 System so on. But these systems universally have high cost and their technology is closely. They do not suit the management of COSCO QINGDAO. In addition, concerning the aspect of intellectual property protection, and future system maintenance and service adjustment, the writer decides to develop "the COSCO Qingdao Ship's Operation MIS" voluntarily.This thesis first elaborated the correlation technique background of software engineering, the object-oriented design and development, the database design standard, the system development kit so on. Then, it analyses the system requirements to the COSCO Qingdao Ship's Operation MIS. It decomposes the system into basic data parts, dispatch management, plan and statistics management, commercial management, system administration and data interfaces. In the system analysis's foundation, based on the principles of reliability and the stability, easy to manage and maintenance, advanced, utility, open and regulated, extendibility, compatibility of os and so on, the software system is designed, the modules are developed and the database is set up. Comparing with the other systems, this system carrys on certain breakthroughs and has the innovation for it does not only provide standard interface data but also receives the exterior subsystems from inland, the sea and the air variously.The thesis discusses many academic issues of software engineering, for instance, definition of software engineering; analysis of differences between waterfall mode and fast prototype; the reason to take B/S as the system framework; by comparing with the traditional method and the popular way of development, replies the question how to display the superiority of OOA, OOD and OOP by J2EE; and so on. Based on the full analysis of the architecture of system, the general design as well as the selection of database, completes system's architecture design, the data model design, the system general design, the detailed design and the test plan, finally realizes all functions of the system.
