Demands for transmission network bandwidth and switching system capacity is growing at an unprecedented rate with the rapid growth in global IP services. To make better use of optical fiber resource and to increase the transmission system capacity, Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology has been proposed and widely used. DWDM technology can simultaneously transmit a number of different wavelengths of light in one single optical fiber, which could meet the need for higher speed, wider broadband and multi-service. In the DWDM node equipment, Optical Supervisory Channel (OSC) is used to transmit network management related information in order to achieve the monitoring of the network node equipment. However, incompatible OSC protocols are being used in DWDM equipments from different vendors, which caused great difficulty for interconnection and unified management. In addition, the increase of laboratory personnel and research projects makes the management of daily affairs in the laboratory very complex. Consequently, a systematic and scientific management approach is needed.Based on DWDM and OSC related technologies, network management technology in DWDM equipment will be discussed. Besides, in order to improve the efficiency of laboratory management, a software called Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) based on ASP.NET technology will be introduced. The main content includes:1. Researching principles of DWDM, OSC and network management technology, as well as DWDM system architecture and the DWDM equipment, especially the protocol stack used in OSC.2. Proposing experimental program for data capture in OSC and Local Area Network (LAN which included the network management computer), analyzing experimental data and putting forward plans and suggestions for future research for self-adaptive DWDM equipment.3. Introducing ASP.NET Web application development technology, designing and developing the software with functions of staff management, rights management, projects management and other functions.
