At earlier 80's, the first LIMS was constructed. Till 90's, LIMS was widelyapplied at developed countries. Now, LIMS has been accepted in China. Laboratory'sefficiency was largely enhanced, the cost of laboratory was significantly reduced.Making use of the principles of LIMS, this thesis discusses the design of the laboratoryinformation management system of the Huabei Petrochemical Company's laboratory.LIMS can be used to integrate all the analytical apparatus in HuabeiPetrochemical Company's laboratory through computer network. It adopts scientificmanagement thoughts and advanced database technique. It fulfills integratedmanagement based on the laboratory. It integrates many modules such as managementfor sample, resource, transactions, network, data (collecting, transferring, handling,exporting, disseminating), report forms and so on and composes a set of full laboratorycomprehensive management and monitoring and controlling system for product quality.It not only meets external routine management requirement but also guarantees strictmanagement and control for analytical data.According to the actual circumstances of Huabei Petrochemical Company'slaboratory, the author and Sunbridge Softtech Ltd co-developed a set of informationmanagement system —— ePlant-LIMS suitable for Huabei petrochemical company'slaboratory. As an engineer of the laboratory, the author is responsible for systemdesigning, collecting fundamental data and designing laboratory workflow and systemfunction target of laboratory.The conclusions of the paper are as follows:1. The LIMS's design and use of each laboratory must take own concrete business asthe foundation, thus, there will be much less trouble in the transition of manual workto automatic processing.2. The technician of the laboratory must participate the whole process of the LIMS 'sdevelopment work, thus, system transformation will be easy, and it is also benefit tothe maintenance of the system.3. The system's safety is a key of LIMS. Otherwise, this will be a very terrible matterunder the situation of automatic management.4, The system should be easy to be reformed and updated. User's instrument'supgrading can occur at any time and any place, Therefore, LIMS must adapt to thesechanges.In the end, the thesis builds a complete frame of laboratory informationmanagement system. It elaborates the design and implementation of every subsystem,especially the practicability. The research work of this thesis also provides referencefor other laboratories to improve laboratory management.
