SOPC (System on Programmable Chip) technology can acomplish the whole logic functionality of the system on a single chip, with the ability of combining processor, memory, I/O port and other function models in a single PLD device, which makes the SOPC a programmable system. SOPC is a flexible and efficient SOC solution that can be easily adjusted, and can extrend hardware and software modules dynamically.This thesis studies the application of SOPC in the remote sensing of image signal source. Firstly, the SOC and SOPC technology and its development status are introduced, and several kinds of current popular embedded processors are briefly described. Then we focus on the Altera company's Nios II soft core processor because of its advantages and application areas. Secondly, the outline of the system is designed based on the technical requirements and its hardware platform establishment is detailed. Then, the SOC implementation based on Nios II soft-core and outside-core functional module is presented, the SDRAM clock phase offsetting problem and the relationship among the Nios II memorizers is studied. Meanwhile the image data generation method and Serial Communication module based on Matlab software are proposed in the thesis. Finally, the implementation procedure of the Nios II soft core processor control software and VB based system testing software are described in detail, and the experiment results are presented.Related functional modules are successfully implemented in the thesis, making the remote sensing of image signal source become true. The experiment results show that SOPC can improve the controling flexibility of system, reduce the number of peripheral chips, improve the reliability of signals, and reduce the system cost. All this enables the system a str- ong scalability and portability. The related design method has important enlightment to the future research.
