With the development of modern electronic technology, The number of electronic devices in automotive systems is constantly increasing, the electronic devices are used more and more in automotive systems, and the systems are increasingly complex. Commonly used integrated circuit chips, such as MCU, ASIC, have difficult to meet the current automotive electronic design for flexibility, stability, low-cost and rapid development of requirements. However, FPGA can solve the above problems very well, it will be good choice for future automotive electronics design, and there will be a very good development prospects in the future of automotive electronics market. The article first introduces the background of the automotive electronics, development status and the practical significance of design, We determines to choose FPGA chip as the system hardware, use the SOPC technology of hardware and software co-design to meet the automotive electronics for high-performance processing, flexible, cost-effective and easy post-maintenance requirements. Then we introduce the characteristics of the FPGA as well as the applications in automotive electronics designs, we also introduce the idea of SOPC of hardware and software co-design and its related knowledge, then we determine selecte Upteach SOPC2000 SOC development platform to design the system. Altera's Cyclone II EP2C35F672C8 FPGA devices in the development platform as the system master chip, the automotive electronics system which designed by using SOPC technology, which has the lock, GPS navigation, GSM communication, intelligent security systems, CAN bus mastering, car radio, car TV,USB data communication and other functions, and gives some modules' the circuit design, using Verilog to compile the user-defined logic, make up the system module with the SOPC Builder, compile and debug the software system with the NIOS II IDE, and described the modules and hardware devices in the experiment, the theory and structure software of the control system. Making the functional simulation in the QUARTUS 117.2 software, tested it on the platform, and ultimately completed of parts of the system design. This design enables the concentration of automotive design and control of multi-functional, which has the advantage of high speed development, high efficiency, low cost, easy mass production and maintenance in the later time.
