In the design of automotive production, test to ensure the safety of motor vehicles is a critical quality control factor. In the real driving test, it is to use the data acquisition to obtain the performance parameters of the car and then analyze the overall safety of the car. This paper introduces a new type of vehicle test FPGA-based multi-channel data acquisition prototype design, primarily for automotive crash performance test. In the car running, it records the motion parameters. And after the car movement, recover the multi-channel data from the acquisition device and process to analysis the actual operation of the vehicle performance. In addition to meet the acquisition accuracy, frequency, data capacity and some other conventional data acquisition design indicators, the data acquisition device also meets the requirements of small size, zero-delay to start etc. and maximize the convenience for the actual test. This paper discussed in detail the overall design concept of data acquisition device. Mainly work includes:(1) Analyze the function requirements and design the architecture block. The whole data acquisition system is divided to several units: analog signal adaption unit, analog signal acquisition unit, digital signal processing unit, data storage unit and central control unit.(2) According to performance indicators for each sub-unit, select chip types and design hardware schematic and PCB layout. The design includes the necessary electrical level conversion, signal isolation, impedance transformation and some other signal-conditioning circuit based on the analog and digital characteristics; the AD conversion, analog to digital isolation circuit; the data cache and storage circuit. (3) In the FPGA development environment, using Verilog language and code all the sub-module in a modular approach to control all the hardware resources. After testing all the sub-modules, connect them together and complete the entire project. The selected peripheral chips not only meet the needs of performance, but also could be purchased as die package so as to lay the foundation of using MCM techniques for further development of the data acquisition device. The data acquisition system is tested, and the result shows that all design requirements are met, and the system runs stably. At last but not least, it is easy for upgrading, and worthy of using abroad.
