As a high-tech of quickness, real-time, gathering and processing information accurately, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has been recognized as the world's top ten key technology in the 21st century. RFID technology has many outstanding advantages, and therefore spreads rapidly worldwide. It not even brings people with a lot of convenience, but also promotes the production efficiency in many fields.RFID technology develops quite fast, portable RFID tags have been implemented now. But portable interrogator is still in its beginning period. To make interrogator portable, it is a must to implement a single-chip transceiver. Implemented RFID single-chip transceivers are few worldwide so far. Therefore, it has become an important development direction of RFID technology that taking great effort to design RFID single-chip transceiver and make RFID interrogator smaller, lower power consumption, cheaper.Based on EPC C1G2 standard, a digital base-band system of UHF RFID interrogator is designed in this thesis. IBM 8RF 0.13um CMOS process is used to achieve the ASIC implementation. And the chip has been tested. The main work and achievements of this thesis is presented below:1. The system architecture of interrogator digital base-band is proposed based on EPC C1G2 standard. The parameters of modulation, coding, data rate and so on are determined according to EPC C1G2 standard. Analysis and optimization is done to the key modules.2. Finish the RTL design of all modules in digital base-band system, and optimize them to fit with ASIC implementation. Improve the simulation methods to obtain more accurate simulation results. The whole system simulation is done, and the result shows that the function of digital base-band meets the EPC C1G2 standard.3. Tape-out successfully based on 0.13um CMOS process. Packaged as QFN100, the chip has 96 I/O pads. Its die size is 3mm×3mm, and cell count is 120K.4. A detailed test has done to the digital base-band chip, test results show that the function of the digital base-band's modules are correct. PIE encoded data rate is 40Kbps, FMO encoded data rate is 80Kbps, and commands supported are Select, Query, Query Adjust, QueryRep, ACK, NAK, Req_RN, Read and Write.
