With today's particularly marked economic informationize and global integration, to improve the operational efficiency of production, lower operating cost of management and seize new business opportunities, information has become the challenge that Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) confront the new economy. How to promote information construction through the development and application of Management Information System (MIS) has become SME managers'main focus.In this paper, by taking the small and medium-sized beverage processing enterprises as the research object, through reading the massive related literature, the features of the enterprises applying management information system were studied, and combined with the actual A Beverage Processing Company(A Company for short), the establishment of the production management information system was analyzed and designed, which including the general analysis and design of the whole system, the detailed analysis and design of the procurement management sub-system, the manufacturing management sub-system and the inventory management sub-system.Firstly, in the general analysis and design of the whole system, the system's design goals, design principles and information flow were defined, and the whole system was divided into five sub-systems, which including systems management, procurement management, manufacturing management, inventory management, and support decision-making management, then the reasonable software architecture, system development model and running environment were selected.Secondly, in the detailed analysis and design of the three subsystems, the weaknesses in A Company's procurement management, manufacturing management and inventory management were investigated and analyzed, the key that establishing the corresponding appropriate management information system to solve the problems was raised, meanwhile, through the corresponding business process analysis and data flow analysis, the function module partition of each sub-system were carried out, the conceptual models of database were designed in the form of Entity-Relationship Diagram,eventually,the required procurement management sub-system,manufacturing management sub-system and inventory management sub-system were established. Among them, the six functions of basic data management, procurement planning management, procurement receipt management, procurement contract management, supplier management and statistical analysis could be provided in procurement management sub-system; the three functions of planning management, workshop operation management and quality management could be provided in manufacturing management sub-system, the five functions of basic data management, storage and retrieval management, warehouse internal management, inventory queries, statistical analysis could be provided in inventory management sub-system.Lastly, the results of the system's application in A Company were showed briefly, and the future prospects for further research work were proposed.
