With the rapid development of digital image processing technology, digital video technology is playing an increasingly important role in the information society. For the wireless channel, the bandwidth resources are limited. The most important problem for digital video data transmission in the wireless channel is large amounts of data, so video data must be compressed. Some systems such as airborne remote sensing system have the demand of high real-time, so must select the appropriate video compression standard.The goal of this paper is to design a two-way video compression card, and complete the data multiplexer, transmit to the ground and show. System has the demands of narrow wireless channel and high real-time. After comparing a variety of commonly used video compression standards, adopt the JPEG2000 video compression standard to achieve the system requirements of narrow bandwidth of data transmission and the small delay of image. ADV202 is a chip JPEG2000 codec of Analog Device Inc, with real-time compression and decompression standard video signals and high-definition video signal.In this paper, we first introduce characteristics and applications, codecs system framework of JPEG2000, and detail related applications of ADV202. Then introduce the important hardware chips in the system such as Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) XC3S400, video decoder chip SAA7115, video encoder chip SAA7121 and single-chip ATMEGA128. Then give the design of hardware and software and the design and simulation of the main modules in compression card and decompression card. Finally, analyze test results of the system.JPEG2000 compression is achieved by the specific chip of ADV202 in this system and it has such characteristic as high real-time in the narrow channel. By using FPGA to skip pixels and by configuring adv202 to skip fields, the system can adopt a low compression ratio to meet the demand of narrow channel, and improve video decompression quality.
