With the rapid development of information technology, we need to transmit the image information in more and more places. As transmission bandwidth and storage capacity of the actual communication system is limited, efficient image data compression is needed to reduce the amount of data for transfer and storage. However, types of image data are very different in statistical characteristics, we must use different image compression methods to get a better performance.If using different compression methods in the same communication system to transmit and store all kinds of images, on one hand, it will bring increase in cost, size and power consumption of the system, the reduction of the reliability, as well as the inconvenience of actual use; the other hand, the movement pattern of the same image source is variable and it is difficult to get the best compression performance by directly use the static or activity method of compression.In this paper, integration of still and moving image compression algorithm which is based on the ADV202 is proposed and implemented, and then module functions and design implementation in each unit of hardware solutions is introduced. The system uses ADV202 as an embedded processing core for wavelet image compression method, takes ADSP-TS201 with high processing performance to do motion estimation, and combines with the advantages of image compression for still and moving image compression in one system. Compared to system of still or moving image compression, the integration of compression system can make flexible choices according to the scenarios and achieve high efficiency and high image quality of image compression, depending on the application scenario flexible options, besides it will reduce system complexity.
