The press-parts production in the vehicle-production field is now transforming from man-transition to transition automatically. At present what is used generally is the combination of tooling, bracket, turning-clamp.In the Shanghai Volkswagen fabrication department press-shop the assembly of tooling depends on experience. And one press part needs one set of tooling, bracket, turning-clamp. This style of production and operation wastes a plenty of money and resource. It also restricts productivity improvement. Therefore it is very necessary for us to build scientific model of universal tooling.Firstly we review the current studying status of the transition system in the field. At this chapter the studying way is confirmed.Secondly through the application of GT, we build a number-rule for press parts and number the parts in press shop line 5. Our study for universal tooling is base on the two parts in the list.Thirdly we build the tooling static and dynamic model based on robot model. The subassembly dimensions are defined through the study of structure stress. The belcup style and relation of subassembly are also defined based on study of two parts characteristics.Finally the model is validated in the virtual and real environment. The stress of surface is analyzed by FEM. The result is ok.
