With the scope of application of the virtual instrument expanding , virtual instrument technology has been developed and refined. Virtual instrument is currently being shifted from specific-purpose type to general-purpose and portable type. During the process, the instrument interchangeability and the software reusability as well as the embedded systems technology have restricted the development of the virtual instrument. At the same time, the current virtual instrument software has poor general-purpose and poor interchangeability. If the test equipment or test tasks change, new instruments software had to be redesigned. Looking for a comprehensive, viable and easy-to-use method, which can meet the needs of small-scale development of virtual instrument and can improve the efficiency of software development is the key to the problem.In this thesis,we analysed the conventional VISA(Virtual Intruments Software Architecture) and used the methodology of IVI (Interchangeable Virtual Instruments) to put forward a software model for EVI (Embedded Virtual Instruments), In order to solve the problem that mentioned above. Based on this model and after studying the existing related research, we did further research and exploration in the field of embedded software design, and discussed the principles and methods for designing the software of embedded virtual intruments. At last, we implemented a simple embedded virtual oscillograph to prove feasibility of the project.The goal of this thesis not only introduced a model to simplify the process of designing the EVI., but also foucued on the other issues, such as : improving the Interchange ability of EVI, making the upgrading or updating easier and advanced the intelligentize and standardization of EVI.
