Along with the rapid development of micro-electronics, computer, network and communication, the techniques of digital video compression have been more and more widely studied and gradually become to be one of researching hots in the field of the information technologies. H.264 is a new international video coding standard developed by Joint Video Team, which is the developing direction of compressing and coding techniques for multimedia information. At the same time, because of having the merits of strong data-processing capability, integrated peripherals, low power consumption and strong flexibility, the video coding system based on professional multimedia device has been widely applied in our daily life, scientific research, military, industry, medicine and still many other fields. Therefore, the combination of new video coding standard H.264 and professional multimedia device, which proves to be of great value, has become a focus of research as an important way for achieving real time processing.Taking a lot of litertures and relevant projects for reference and considering the actual project, the thesis proposes a brand-new design solution to construct a video coding system platform based on MG3500 SoC, which is a High Definition H.264 video codec system-on-chip developed by Mobilygen. The thesis focuses on the analysis and design of the video coding system based on H.264 standard and designs the hardware and software of the system according to the functions and performances of the system, mainly the hardware.Firstly, the thesis introduces the background and researching significance of the project, summarizes the development and implemented methods of video coding system. Secondly, introduce the basic principles and analyze the pivotal techniques of the H.264 standard. Then the general structure of hardware design is given after the analysis of functional demand in the video coding system , the main performances and parameters of MG3500 are narrated in detail. After that,the hardware design of the modules in this system is described detailedly, including the DDR SDRAM circuits, the Flash circuits, the SATA hard disk circuits, the power system, the clock system, the alarm circuits, all kinds of interfaces circuits and video encoding and decoding modules. Hereafter, introduce some principles and specific methods that should be observed and adopted in high-speed PCB design for hardware circuits, give out the basic processes and noted issues of hardware debugging. Finally, summarize the thesis and direct the researching direction for optimizing the system.
