The asynchronous design and synchronous design are the two basic methods in implementing the digital system.The main difference between them is how to implement unisonous operation of the logic hardware system.Asynchronous integrated circuit generates the local clock signals of every pipeline using handshake protocol,instead of the global clock signal of its synchronous counterpartner.Accordingly,it can solves such problems as clock skew and energy dissipation naturally in traditional synchronous integrated circuits,and it has the average-case performance with perfect reusability and robustness.At present,asynchronous integrated circuit design is becoming the research focus both at home and abroad.And many scholars have forecasted that asynchronous technology will take the place of synchronous technology and become the main design method gradually in the industry.As the process enters deep submicron stage,low power plays an important role in the development of integrated circuit.The static power rises exponentially with the feature size decrease.Thus,the static power dissipation does not approach to null anymore and it can't be paid little attention again.All work in the paper are:present the background of the research and actuality of low power design in digital IC both in and out of the country.Handshaking protocol,signal transport protocol,data encoding protocol and the implementation modes of various handshaking protocols are studied;delay issue in asynchronous circuits is analysed;the corresponding delay models are set up and the classification of the asynchronous is presented.Multi-threshold CMOS(MTCMOS) technology is an effective way to reduce the static power dissipation of CMOS circuits.Muller C is indeed a fundamental component that is extensively used in asynchronous circuits,and trigger works as the storage unit in asynchronous sequential circuits.After introducing the principle of MTCMOS,the paper improves the design of CMOS gate.A new kind of multi-threshold Muller C element and multi-threshold CMOS singled-edge JK trigger are designed.It carries on the improvement on CMOS transistor circuits of asynchronous circuit function block Martin adder.At last,the paper presents a design methodology incorporating multi-threshold CMOS into delay-insensitive asynchronous circuits to realize ultra-low power asynchronous circuits design,and the effect of performance of circuits that use MTCMOS can be analyzed from the simulation curves.
