It is known that, as one of the three public enterprises, gas business is associated with people's daily life. In order to offer high-quality and high-security service to individuals, the gas firm has always strived. However, the gas firm is almost puzzled with such problems as inaccuracy of meter reading, low management of gas net and not being in time of getting statistical information, which also defer the development of the gas firm. At the same time, the low level of gas business affects the course of modernization and is bad to the project of harmonious society.Presently, gas firm normally takes the way of manual meter reading, which is a waste of much labor and resources. The inaccurate data makes it in a low level of achievement. And it keeps the gas firm from improvement. Although IC card meter starts to be used in parts of our country, which partly solves the problem of meter reading, it can not monitor or manage the whole gas net. As for the gas firm, gas net can not be known well and in time. Therefore, it is the first task for the gas firm to settle the problem of meter reading.As the technology of communication and semiconductor develops swiftly, the huge value of WSN, especially in the departments of public utility, military reconnaissance, industrial production, medical care, agriculture, aquaculture and space explore, catches the attention of governments, army force, Multinational Corporation and scientific research society. It is also a hot point in academic world and industrial circles. WSN is a typical use of pervasive computing, in which the idea that whenever and wherever calculations can go well and the essential information can be received through some tools was proposed.The investigation of WSN derives from 1990s, which is a unity of sensor technology, embedded technology, modern network and wireless communication technology. As a self-organizing and distributed net system, WSN is made of many ubiquitous micro sensor nodes with the ability of communication and calculation, which can monitor and gather environment information by many kind of integrated micro sensor. As the information is transmitted to customers wirelessly and in the way of self-organization and multi-route, the physical world, computing world and human-being society can be connected.Because of the character of WSN, we explore a meter reading system based on WSN. So, gas firm can escape from the stage of knowing nothing about the running condition of gas meter and the capability of monitoring comes true.The aim of the system is to gather gas meter reading timely, accurately and generally based on WSN. This system includes three layers: data access layer, business logical layer and presentation layer, which are independent logically, especially inside the layer, they are free-running but act as a unity. Therefore, with more stability and usability, the expansibility and maintainability of the system can be enhanced.The whole system composes of two subsystems: Business-Charging subsystem and Manager-Analysis subsystem. They are about charging service, the management of meter working condition, and the statistics and analysis of the gas data.In Business-Charging subsystem, such as customer management, meter management, charging management can be perfectly done. First, on customer management, customer not only can be accurately linked with its own meter, but also can be added to, deleted and amended. So does the meter management. Second, on charging management, the function of charging plays its role efficiently.In Manager-Analysis subsystem, the big use of the technology of WSN has been made of. Through the chip which can wirelessly transmit, such functions as managing the gas meter, monitoring the status of the valve and battery, and monitoring the working condition of the gas pipelines, can work better. At the same time, the gas firm can be managed and developed via the statistics and analysis of the meter reading, including the gas quantity data and the data of the meter condition.All in all, the use of WSN makes the gas firm do a big development. Moreover, the use of the meter reading system based on WSN takes a breakthrough to the gas firm on aspects of gas net management and gas business. Therefore, on base of WSN, we should believe that, with the improvement of gas business, more achievements can be made by the public unity!...
