The Set-top Box (STB) is the transitional product in the course of TV development from analog TV to digital TV. In the coming several years, STB will still be necessary in digital TV domain.It is fully known that digital TV will substitute analog TV. However, at the terminal, analog TV can not receive the digital signal. The solution is matching the STB to the analog TV, then the digital processing of television will be straightway.The DVB-C STB platform is the fire-new Digital TV receiver solution which STMicroelectronics Inc.(ST) provided, and this platform represents the technical developing direction of this field. The cord of STB is STx5105. It has a ST20 32-bit CPU core inside it, and can receive the serial MPEG-2 data from tuner through TS_InData interface, then descramble, demulriple and decode the data. After that, STx5105 convert the digital signal to analog signal and add it to the analog TV. In addition, STx5105 can be used to provide the fire-new wonderful TV menu because of its own OSD generator and Picture Compositor(mixing four planes).This dissertation introduces the DVB-C Set-top Box design (hardware and software) based-on the STx5105 Platform, the theory and implementing methods about the hardware debug, total debug and the speciality about how to develop the embedded system in detail. Also, the paper presents how to use the Mentor Graphics'HyperLynx software to do the signal integrity simulation for PCB board design in different versions and how to improve the hardware board gradually to achieve the requirement for production specially.This dissertation is engaged in researching and developing DTV receiver product based-on STx5105 platform from ST and keeps ahead in the country, now we have developed the functional specimen. Therefore, the dissertation acts a promoting role in expanding this new DTV receiver solution in the domestic TV market.
