In December, 2005 the IEEE ratified the 802.16e amendment to the 802.16 standard. This amendment adds the features and attributes to the standard necessary to support mobility. Mobile WiMAX is a broadband wireless solution that enables convergence of mobile and fixed broadband networks through a common wide area broadband radio access technology and flexible network architecture. The Mobile WiMAX Air Interface adopts. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) for improved multi-path performance in non-line-of-sight environments. Scalable OFDMA (SOFDMA) is introduced in the IEEE 802.16e Amendment to support scalable channel bandwidths from 1.25 to 20 MHz.Mobile WiMAX Wireless Network can access to IP core network. It mainly provides data services for users as well as voice services. Mobile WiMAX has the attributes such as high data throughput, a wide transmission range, simple and flexible deployment and low cost per bit compared with the traditional 2G/3G network. In recent years, it attracts more and more attention from operators and equipment manufacturers both at home and abroad. With the increasing applications of Mobile WiMAX network, wireless network planning has become more and more important in large-scale WiMAX networking deployment. This paper briefly introduces mobile WiMAX physical layer, the MAC layer and key technology related to them, and also summarize the special consideration in the network planning in accordance with the characteristics of mobile WiMAX. In this paper, it displays the WiMAX wireless network planning process and discusses the key issues in the planning. Comparative analysis is mainly in two parts. One is the frequency reuse; the other is the propagation model. Finally, the paper analyses the network in the macro-level, particularly coverage planning study in the planning of network. In this part, it focuses on link budget in wireless environment. This study mainly includes theoretical analysis and simulation, supplemented by comparison. It trys to applie the link budget method in the 2G or 3G wireless networks planning to the mobile WiMAX.The topic of the research comes from the learning for hot wireless broadband technology and experimental result form projects in which the author involved. It belongs to the liberal study.
