Mobile communication has been developing rapidly in recent years. With the emergence of new business and new users, service carriers are paying more and more attention to the construction of the mobile communication network. Without the accurate radio wave propagation model, it is impossible to build a high quality communication network. A relatively precise propagation model is favorable for accurately estimating base stations'coverage range and forecasting network's coverage condition. In network planning, radio propagation and coverage forecasting are both conducted on the basis of propagation models, while the classical models can not reflect the propagation characteristics of a particular environment accurately. Using these propagation models without calibrating may introduce serious errors into the predicted value. Therefore, in order to obtain the propagation model reflecting the local propagation environment with high accuracy, it requires a great deal of tests to calibrate the radio propagation model.Taking mobile WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) system in the network planning project of a small city as the example, the thesis proposes a least square error calibration algorithm of nonlinear propagation model based on the simulation analysis of classical outdoor propagation models. According to CW (Continuous Wave) testing data of the city, the calibrated models of three kinds of areas, including downtown, urban and suburb, are obtained. As the simulation results show, the mean error and standard deviation of the calibrated results can meet the requirement of network planning. To further verify the practicability of the proposed model, on the basis of network characteristics of WiMAX, the thesis uses the calibrated model to obtain the detailed link estimation of the specified city and the cell covering radius. According to the cellular network structure, the primary coverage estimation is acquired, which can provide fundamental data for future wireless network planning of mobile WiMAX.
