The Research On Cross-database Search Platform Of Digital Library Based On XML

Cross-database search of digital library can provide a unified retrieval interface for users, it can transform the user's retrieval request into retrieval expressions of different data sources, parallel search several distributed heterogeneous data sources on the local and wide area network, and make search results integrated, after remove repetition and sort operations, make retrieval results present to user in a uniform format. User can access a numbers of databases simultaneously and parallel search by cross database search system to search information resources, which not only reduce burden of studying search on different data source, but also save search time and increase the efficiency of retrieval.This thesis discusses XML-based digital library cross-database search platform building. Most of the digital library database resources have heterogeneous characteristic, and incompatible with each other, the data integration of heterogeneous data source must be considered when cross database search platform is building. XML technology has following characteristics: open, extensible, flexible, self-descriptive, and have a strong link capacity, which facilitate the exchange of data between networks, with the better universal. This thesis makes a deep research to data integration of digital library heterogeneous database by the method of the combination of XML technology and middleware technology. Compared with traditional middleware, XML middleware has following features: it can describe any type of structured or semi-structured information and make resources rapid packaging and integration release, which can better solve the heterogeneous problem of heterogeneous database resources and useful for data exchange and data share between heterogeneous database resources. Therefore, we can use XML middleware technologies for the digital library cross-database search platform building.Based on analysis of some domestic and international cross-database search system, this thesis discusses the main functions and characteristics of XML-based cross-database search platform. Finally select CALIS unified search platform as the main case, analysis the inadequacies of current cross-database search platform, and give some advices on how to improve and strengthen function of cross-database search platform to these inadequacies.
