Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) consists of plenty of sensor nodes and is a multi-jump wireless network; it has the self-organization and fault tolerance characteristics. The above described features ensure a wide range of applications for sensor networks such as: military, environment, health, industry control and so on. Recently, wireless sensor networks based on IEEE802.15.4 protocol is becoming the domestic and international research hot inwireless network.Zigbee is a low complexity, low-power, low data-rate, low-cost wireless communication technologies for small wireless network.Its physical layer and data link layer are developed by IEEE802.15.4 working group, and high-level layer (network layer, data security) is by the Zigbee Alliance. Zigbee technology will have a broad market in household metering network, home control systems, building automation, industrial control areas.In the study, we introduce the wireless sensor network and make a research on Zigbee and IEEE802.15.4 protocols. While comparing with other wireless protocols, we conclude that Zigbee is the most suitable for wireless water meter reading.Secondly; we design a framework of meter reading system and achieve various functions. Then, we make an exploration on Zigbee network communication with modular based on Freescale Company's MC13213 and achieve the peer-to-peer modules communication.Finally, the thesis put forward in the future study and work need to improve.
