The paper analyzes the design and developing process of the PCI experiment card used for teaching.The project implements the chip PLX9054 developed by PLX Corporation as the interface chip for PCI bus.Moreover the FPGA chip(here specify EP1C6Q240C8 chip which is designed by Altera Corporation)is used to achieve the logic of controlling PLX9054 and UART.Firstly,the paper presents a general introduction of the architecture and protocol of PCI bus.Secondly,it continues to discuss the characteristic and architecture of PLX9054 and EP1C6Q240C8 in detail.Finally,it explores the particular process of designing,achieving and testing the PCI experiment card from hardware and software two different aspects.In hardware design,the paper mainly completes several aspects indicated as follow:5,the realization of the PCI interface board using PLX90546,the implementation of connection circuit between PLX9054 and FPGA7,the achievement of circuital design of FPGA8,the realization of circuital design of UARTIn software design,the paper mainly completes several aspects indicated as follow:1,the implementation of the logic of controlling PLX9054 by using VHDL.2,the realization of UART by using VHDL3,the realization of device driver by using WinDriver4,the implementation of application program by using VC6.0In the project,using UART is to verify the correctness of the basic transfers of PCI experiment card.Therefore,when sending data from PCI bus,the data via UART on PCI is sent to the serial port on PC,which will check if the data is correct utilizing the debug tool;when sending data from the serial port on PC,the data is received byUART on PCI card,and then transferred to PCI bus.
