Activity-centered design of computer-supported collaborative learning(CSCL) system is of great significance for fully displaying it's advantages in modern distance education. Collaborative learning activity design becomes central content of CSCL's instructional design. At present the research of learning activity modelling focuses on educational modelling language and IMS learning design(LD) specification based on it.They study a meta-model which can describe various instructional methods. The meta-model is activity-centerd, which can support dynamic learning process involving several roles, and formalize collaborative activities to be automatically processed by software systems. But because the metal-model is general, the LD specification itself cannot assure contents loaded fit in with teaching requirements, so it needs other instructional design theory to support its application; Moreover, the LD specification's concepts are quite complex, and ordinary teachers have difficulties to understand. So it's not easy to design directly with it. In addition, collaborative learning activity design is extremely complicated, which involves group definition, learning activity flow structure, etc.In order to solve these problems, the dissertation has introduced theories and methods of design pattern into collaborative learning activity design, and put them into practice. First, it summarized and abstracted experts'design experience, striped concrete learning contents from design proposals, and formed a content-independent design pattern set; Second, the dissertation described needs of modelling collaborative learning activity design patterns, formalized them with the LD specification, thus they can be explained and executed by software systems conforming to the standard, and exchanged between different systems; Third, a collaborative learning design tool based on patterns was developed. Patterns were provided as templates to instructional designers by the tool. They needn't understand complicated LD specification, and only have to give little customization to the templates to obtain effective designs. In this way, the tool greatly reduced designers'work, and made it possible for ordinary teachers to participtate in design. The dissertation's outcomes can reduce difficulties in designing, structuring and implementing effective collaborative learning activities for practicers in distance learning, and can make design patterns described with natural language executable, sharable and reusable. |
