This dissertation focuses on learning activity modeling for the perspective of learner centered education, based on theories of modeling methodology and instructional design, through introducing ideas of workflow and design pattern into this field.The main contents of dissertation are the following: (1) Modeling methodology in education: This dissertation explains the definition of modeling methodology and the principle of modeling. After this, it describes the needs and aims of modeling in education and categories of educational models. On these theoretical explanations, the author sums up the basic elements of learning activity after comparing the relevant research and practice. (2) Theoretical foundation: In this dissertation, the author lies the theoretical foundation by activity modeling and activity centered analyzing framework and introducing and by analyzing relations between learning objects and activity modeling, instructional design and activity modeling, models of teaching. (3) Learning activity sequence: The author discusses the processes of learning activity for the perspective of workflow, builds a meta-model of learning flow to study it. On these researches the author analyzes the sequence pattern of learning activity to guide learning activity sequencing. (4) Design pattern in activity design: The idea of design pattern is introduced into activity design. The author depicts the application of design pattern in learning activity design, and classifies category of it with ten examples to explain it. (5)Learning activity modeling: On the previous research and the study on educational modeling language, the author builds a meta-model of learning to develop a learning activity modeling language (LAML). In order to use it, he designs the architecture of activity modeling software system. After that, he defines the five steps of making unit of activities: learning objective analyzing, participants analyzing, activity and teaching methods analyzing, resource analyzing and reflection and analyzing of the results of learning.The main innovations of this dissertation are the following: (1) introducing theory and practice of design pattern in activity design, making valuable contribution and providing theoretical guidance to activity design; (2) analyzing pattern of learning activity sequencing for the perspective of workflow; (3) developing a new activity modeling language (LAML) to amend the bug and limitations of the present educational modeling languages; (4) developing an architecture of software system to implement LAML; (5) setting steps to analyze unit of activities(UOA) to standardize the process from analysis to implementation UOA. All these works set a solid base for theoretical study and laid a foundation for future work.
